It was a close call for Bobby Bones this week after he almost fell victim to a scam that started with his hacked debit card.

Bobby explained on The Bobby Bones Show that he had just woken up from a nap when his phone rang. The caller ID showed what looked like his bank, which made sense because his debit card had recently been canceled. The caller asked questions like, “How much money do you have in checking?” and “What’s in savings?” Still groggy, Bobby answered.

Things took an even stranger turn when the caller asked him to log into his banking app and said they would FaceTime him to “connect screens” and confirm the numbers. Bobby went along at first, but soon pushed back, saying, “I don’t think you’re real.” The scammer got defensive and snapped, “Have you never talked to fraud before?” That was the red flag Bobby needed.

What made it scary was how much personal information the scammer already had—his phone number, address, and even his bank name. Luckily, Bobby trusted his gut and cut the call before giving them access.

Later, Bobby discovered how his information likely ended up in the wrong hands. He had tried to buy beef jerky online from what looked like a real brand’s website, but it turned out to be a fake copy. He never got the jerky—just a warning about how easy it is to be tricked.

The takeaway? Always double-check websites before entering card details. Look for HTTPS, the padlock symbol, and make sure the site is official.
