Gene Hetland

Hi, and thanks for logging on! I'm a lifelong South Dakotan, in fact a lifelong eastern South Dakotan. I grew up on a farm north of Montrose, in McCook County and am a South Dakota State University grad (Go Jacks!). I lived and worked for a time in Huron after college and have lived in Sioux Falls since January of 1975. My wife's name is Sharon and we're Twins fans, although some years it isn't easy. I hope you'll keep checking my posts. We're not going to get into who's right, who's wrong or who's full of something. I'm just telling you a bit about what's going on with me.

Remembering the Wounded Knee Occupation

In a way, it's hard to believe the occupation of Wounded Knee began 40 years ago, and in a way it seems longer.

I was a senior in college when we heard about what was going on at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation

Expand or Abolish Registration?

I saw a wire service story about how there are quiet discussions in Congress about whether to include women in the requirement that 18-year-olds register with the Selective Service System, or do away with it altogether

Countdown to Budget Cuts

The deadline for a budget deal is getting closer, and a lot of America is wondering what will happen.
