The snow and ice storm Monday afternoon brought an increase in vehicle crashes in Sioux Falls. Officer Sam Clemens says police were called to 83 crashes between 2:00 PM and 9:00 PM.

Clemens says the total is four to five times the normal number.

He says the ice that accumulated before the snow fell didn't help matters, but there were no serious crashes among the 83.

Clemens says the best advice for motorists is to slow down and give yourself extra space between your vehicle and the one ahead of you, because when the road is icy, it takes more time to stop.
