Gene Hetland

Hi, and thanks for logging on! I'm a lifelong South Dakotan, in fact a lifelong eastern South Dakotan. I grew up on a farm north of Montrose, in McCook County and am a South Dakota State University grad (Go Jacks!). I lived and worked for a time in Huron after college and have lived in Sioux Falls since January of 1975. My wife's name is Sharon and we're Twins fans, although some years it isn't easy. I hope you'll keep checking my posts. We're not going to get into who's right, who's wrong or who's full of something. I'm just telling you a bit about what's going on with me.

Agencies Brace for Sequestration Cuts

Government agencies on every level are keeping an eye on Washington and watching to see if the so-called "sequestration" cuts are made.

Officials with the South Dakota National Guard say automatic spending cuts could force them to furlough 548 of the Guard's 918 full-time employees for one day a week for 22 weeks, beginning in late April, if the automatic cuts are made

Germs With Your Coffee?

I saw a story that says the coffee mug you use at work is more than likely, well, germ-laden.

In fact, I think the phrase they used was "colonies of germs."

And they're right. How often do you bring your office coffee mug home to wash it? Or do you wash it at work?

None of the above? I have to confess I'm right there with you
