SIOUX FALLS - A 32-year old Sioux Falls man has been identified as the person killed in the multi-vehicle accident at 41st & Minnesota Thursday morning, February 14th.

Troy M. Hohn of Sioux Falls was the driver of a Chevy Blazer who was driving at ‘a high rate of speed that triggered the accident just before lunchtime.

Sioux Falls Police Lt. Jerome Miller said in a Friday morning police briefing that they had gotten a few calls about a reckless driver just before the fatal accident, from the area around 57th Street and just west of Minnesota Avenue.

Investigators say Hohn hit a Durango waiting at the traffic light, which triggered the other vehicle accidents. A total of six people were taken to various hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

Hohn’s vehicle flipped onto it’s roof and came to a stop next to the gas pumps at Taylor’s Pantry on the southeast corner of 41st & Minnesota. No damage was reported to the gas pumps although a small fire started in Hohn’s vehicle which was extinguished by first responders. Taylor’s Pantry owners reported in excess of $20,000 in property damage but she said it could have been so much worse for them.

Sioux Falls police have not released an estimate of Hohn’s speed, though witnesses estimate it at over 60 miles an hour in a 30 mile an hour zone. Police also did not give any more details on why the accident happened while waiting for final investigator findings.

Hohn did have a number of moving violations on his record, though no felonies. He was convicted of fleeing from an officer in Minnesota in 2003. Hohn also had three speeding tickets, and one DUI conviction in 2007.

Investigators reopened the intersection about 6:00 Thursday evening.
