PIERRE - The Stanley County School District has hired a Wyoming school principal to be its new superintendent.

Dan Martin currently serves as the high school principal in the Fremont County School District in Shoshoni, Wyo.

School board and community members interviewed three finalists for the post on Wednesday, and the board announced its decision on Thursday.

The district says that Martin, who has South Dakota roots, will begin his superintendent duties on July 1.

Stanley County School District superintendent Don Hotalling announced his intent to retire at the end of this school year.

Martin previously lived and worked in central South Dakota. He tells KCCR radio that becoming a superintendent has been a goal of his and he looks forward to returning to South Dakota.
