Watch A Minnesota High Speed Chase Suspect Drive SUV Off Bridge
Police chase suspects and use various techniques to evade capture. Usually, these techniques fail and the suspect is detained, but not after creating a bunch of chaos.
In a recent chase conducted by the Minnesota Highway Patrol, a suspect's unbelievable mistake actually created an opportunity for the suspects to get away for a short time.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a trooper witnessed a driver in a Kia SUV speeding at over 90 miles per hour on I-94. The trooper attempted to stop the SUV but the driver exited the interstate.
The driver accelerated and was attempting to get back on the interstate. However, the SUV was traveling too fast and the driver lost control. The SUV crashed into an overpass guardrail and the momentum carried the vehicle through the guardrail and down to the surface below. There was no official estimate on how far the vehicle dropped, but it seems to be over 15 feet.
The SUV originally landed on its roof but momentum caused it to roll back on its wheels. Police say the two juvenile occupants survived the fall with non-life-threatening injuries and fled the destroyed SUV. Local law enforcement assisted troopers in tracking down and taking the suspects into custody.
The reason why the suspects led police on a chase remains under investigation.
