So what are the “Northern Lights”?

According to Space.com: “At any given moment, the sun is ejecting charged particles from its corona, or upper atmosphere, creating what's called the solar wind.

When that wind slams into Earth's ionosphere, or upper atmosphere, the aurora is born. In the Northern Hemisphere, the phenomenon is called the northern lights (aurora borealis), while in the Southern Hemisphere, it's called the southern lights (aurora australis).”

In the next number of years, we are forecast to see exceptional Northern Light brightness due to a thing called Solar Cycle 25.

Solar cycles are natural phases of increased and decreased solar activity that last approximately 11 years each. Solar Cycle 25, which began in December 2019, is predicted to be one of the most active in recent memory.
