Details are still coming including the identity of the suspect, but a U.S. Deputy Marshall had to use force to take him down. The officer fired one shot and the man is dead.

The FBI will take over investigating what happened in the parking lot of the Lewis Drug on Cliff Avenue and East 10th Street around 1:30 PM on Saturday. Sioux Falls Police Officer Sam Clemens says authorities had been tracking the man and were about to arrest him when he produced a hand gun.

KDLT's Ricky Cody spoke to a person who was in the store at the time of the shooting. That witness says a gunshot was heard at one point and a call went out over the loudspeaker for people to remain in the store because of a situation in the parking lot.

The unknown fugitive who is not believed to be from the area was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no additional injuries were reported.

Store goers were restricted for a time from entering or leaving the Lewis location.
