Willie Pays Tribute To Sinatra On New Album ‘My Way’
One American Music Icon pays tribute to another when Willie releases My Way, a tribute to Frank Sinatra. And yes, all or at least most of the Sinatra songs you know and love are included.
Tribute albums are nothing new to the Red Headed Stranger of course. His 1977 To Lefty From Willie Lefty Frizzell tribute is one of country music's most legendary albums. On a personal note, I loved his tribute to his friend, and my favorite songwriter, Kris Kristofferson on his 1979 Sings Kristofferson.
So Willie interpreting Sinatra is a natural. And Willie certainly is familiar with pop music standards. 1978's Stardust remains one of the biggest selling and most iconic albums in Willie's incredible recording career.
“I learned a lot about phrasing listening to Frank. He didn’t worry about behind the beat or in front of the beat, or whatever – he could sing it either way, and that’s the feel you have to have.”
This is one to look forward to...but then all of Willie's music is something to look forward to. Mark it on your calendar, September 14, Willie sings Frank.
