Typically police are looking for your crime tips to help them solve cases.

This Wednesday and Thursday, August 31 and September 1, 2016, Sioux Falls finest will be looking for an entirely different kind of tip from you.

Today and tomorrow, law enforcement officers in Sioux Falls are swapping their badges and guns for aprons and notepads as they prepare to take your food orders in the annual "Tip a Cop" fundraiser for Special Olympics South Dakota.

This year's event will be held both days from 5 to 9 P.M. at Texas Roadhouse behind the Empire Mall in Sioux Falls.

Local law enforcement officers will really be putting their skills to the test, as they donate their time to assist staff in serving restaurant goers.

According to Special Olympics South Dakota, all "special" tips and donations will go directly to the 2,000 athletes and 26 programs of Special Olympics South Dakota.

The Tip a Cop event is part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run , an annual series of relay runs that started in the state back in 1988. The Torch Run is sponsored by law enforcement communities from around the world to benefit Special Olympics.

During its first year in the state the Torch Run event raised just under $1,000 with two runs, one from Mt. Rushmore to Rapid City and another from Sioux Falls to Vermillion.

The event went state-wide back in 1991 and last year it raised more than $541,000.
