The Wrap: This Week in Review
- Snow and slippery conditions began our week across South Dakota. The Sioux Fall Police Dept. stayed busy as well responding to 46 accidents on Friday, 26 on Saturday, 61 on Sunday. That's 133 (reported) fender-benders due to ice and snow. The Swiftel Center in Brookings also opened it's doors for stranded motorists as the South Dakota D.O.T. shut down I-29 from Sioux Falls to Watertown on Sunday in addition to portions of I-90.
- It doesn't look like the tubing hills will be open this weekend, however, Great Bear Ski Valley opened at least some of the slopes for skiers. They are still making snow and hope to be in full operation mode soon.
- South Dakota Trooper Andrew Steen will spend Christmas with his family, at home. He waked out of the Sanford USD Medical Center on Friday to the applause of several law enforcement officers, friends, family, and medical staff. He has been hospitalized for 8 weeks after being run over and suffered head injuries.
- Sioux Falls Police are planning saturation patrols Saturday throughout the city. They are encouraging caution while driving in the busiest of shopping days. They will be watching for left hand turning, staying in your lane around corners, among various driving infractions. Additional officers will be on the lookout for intoxicated drivers, as well.
- A wintery mix of weather this weekend across South Dakota. Keep up to date with radar and changing weather conditions. Ice, rain, snow are possible through Saturday, mainly to the north of Sioux Falls.
- Jerry Olszewski was introduced Wednesday morning as the new head coach for the Augustana Viking football program. He will work with the team to try and improve on a disappointing 5 - 6 season.
- The Salvation Army is really hoping to deliver Christmas presents to over 2,000 kids this year. However, your help is needed to make this happen. Could you drop off a toy or cash donation to the Angel Tree in the Macy's wing of the Empire Mall this weekend? They hope to deliver toys on December 20 and 21st.
- Another reminder to local retail to check ID's carefully. A liquor sting resulted in another 2 Sioux Falls businesses selling alcohol to a minor. Amoco on E. 10th St. and Franklin Food Mart on Cliff Ave. both failed and will have to appear in court and may face possible fines.
