A South Dakota State Penitentiary inmate has been indicted on murder and manslaughter charges for the death of his cellmate earlier this month.

Attorney General Marty Jackley says 28-year-old Douglas Ipsen is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter in the death earlier this month of Kent Davidson, a convicted killer.

Ipsen is currently serving a 60-year sentence out of Butte County for first-degree rape and an additional consecutive 15-year sentence for sexual contact with a child under the age of 16.

Jackley says the indictment charges that Ipsen killed Davidson "on or about September 7" in the cell they shared at the Penitentiary in Sioux Falls.
