The only part of my yard that has needed watering so far this summer is my garden.  And that has been just one time.

Sioux Falls has seen enough rain fall this season to avoid strict watering restrictions.  The city is currently at Stage-1, which allows homeowners to water lawns every other day and only after 5:00 PM.

In recent weeks South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard declared a statewide emergency because of the ongoing drought conditions in the state. Moderate and severe drought conditions can be found in central, north central and western South Dakota.

So as we approach the 4th of July please keep in mind the dry conditions when celebrating with fireworks.  Be safe and know that where you shoot off your fireworks it may not take much to set off a fire.
