It's not very often that we play a song for the first time and say, 'that could be the song of the year.' but Highway Don't Care might be strong enough to be classified that way.  The song comes on Tim McGraw's new album 2 Lanes of Freedom and features mega stars Taylor Swift with Keith Urban ripping a guitar riff many ax jamers' will be trying to duplicate for decades.

So, as action packed as that sounds you can still do one thing.  Believe the hype.  Oh, there are going to be people hating on Taylor but give it up please.  As Kickin' Country music director Jay Williams just said,  it sounds like Taylor's finally growing up. He's right.

Here's where I got off the path on the song.  Yes it sounds great.  Tim is spot on with his vocals and Taylor adds a real innocent feel to it and Keith is proof that great guitar players still live in Nashville.  But the part I love is the lyrics.  There's so much star power on the song I had to dig to find out who wrote the song.  I was pleased when I found out the writers were  Bret and Brad.  Better known as the Warren Brothers they told Roughstock.com,

“We wrote with Taylor Swift when she was 13 years old, and we’ve been waiting like the last

11 years to get on one of her records,” Brad Warren tells Roughstock of “The Highway Don’t Care.”  “So we finally had to have her do a duet with Tim McGraw to get a Taylor Swift cut  [laughs]! The song sounds great, and we are so proud of it.”

As great of songwriters as the Warren Brothers are, they had more kind words to offer McGraw on his latest effort.

“Tim’s album is just great as a whole,” praises Brad Warren. “I think it’s one of the best records Tim’s ever done … maybe the very best. It’s really good.”

Mark your calender, no more than 10 weeks from today it will be the number one song in Country Music.  As long as we're making silly claims, I'll also go out on a limb and tell you you'll be hearing the song 10 years from now too.  Highway Don't Care.

Lyrics to Highway Don't Care

Bet your window’s rolled down and your hair’s pulled back
I bet you got no idea you’re going way too fast
And you’re trying not to think about what went wrong
Trying not to stop til you get where you goin’
Trying to stay awake so I bet you turn on the radio
And the song goes

I can’t live without you, I can’t live without you baby
I can’t live without you, I can’t live without you baby, baby
The highway won’t hold you tonight
The highway don’t know you’re alive
The highway don’t care if you’re all alone
But I do, I do.

The highway won’t dry your tears
The highway don’t need you here
The highway don’t care if you’re coming home
But I do, I do.

I bet you got a dead cell phone in the shot gun seat
Yeah, I bet you’re bending God’s ear talking about me.
You’re trying not to let the first tear fall out
Trying not to think about turning around
Trying not to be lost in sound but that song is always on
So you sing along

I can’t live without you, I can’t live without you baby
I can’t live without I can’t live without you baby, baby
The Highway won’t hold you tonight
The highway don’t know you’re alive
The highway don’t care if you’re all alone
But I do, I do

The highway won’t dry your tears
The highway don’t need you here
The highway don’t care if you’re coming home
But I do, I do.

I can’t live without you, I can’t live without you baby
I can’t live without I can’t live without you baby, baby

The highway don’t care
The highway don’t care
The highway don’t care
But I do, I do.
