The main thrust of having an events center is to fill the building with people who will see, do and hear.  Parking once people arrive will be a work in progress.

Sioux Falls officials have put together numerous contingencies for transporting the masses to and from the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.  Shuttle buses plus on and off street parking are just the start of the behind the scenes elements to the new entertainment experiences.

Mike Cooper who is the Director of Planning and Development for the City spells out the changes and challenges of parking.  Even before the PREMIER Center was built, parking was problematic.  The McCart Fields lots south of the area were one accommodation that was made early in the process.

Cooper also says 2nd Street between West and Western Avenues will become a haven for cars on the south side as well.  That passageway is wide enough to allow for diagonal parking on the south side which will add many more spots.  “We did get approval from the City Council for that change.  It should be striped by October 3 for the Jason Aldean concert.”

Also be on the lookout for parking signage which will denote where the on-street parking is available and the off-street parking as well.  One tip given by Principal Traffic Engineer Heath Hoftiezer is that for the lots on event days, signage will alert drivers to which lots have room and which lots are full.

Here’s another parking option that will employ shuttle buses from some nearby lots.  The projected lots using this service are located at Elmwood Golf Course, Veteran’s Memorial Park and at Covell Lake.  However, there are no plans at this time to use the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds for parking with bussing options.
