On Thursday, South Dakota Department of Transportation closed I-90 from Plankinton to Sioux Falls due to water over the roadway.  On Friday, the Plankinton from Mitchell stretch is open.  Other portions of I-90 are reopening while others are remain closed.  Check the SD DOT website for further updates on I-90.

There are various county, state and US highways in the region that have portions closed.  Some rivers have crested and others will crest this weekend.  As water continues to rise, we could see more closures throughout the weekend.  Road conditions and closures will change at a moments notice.

Road conditions by state:

South Dakota Highway Patrol reminds motorists not to drive through water crossing a road.  There has been numerous reports of vehicles stalling out while attempting to cross roads with running water.  Even if your vehicle has the ground clearance to clear the water hazard, the water could be hiding a washed out road and you could drive into a large hole.
