Facebook Causing STDs in SD
It appears that South Dakotans may be getting more promiscuous. Wendell Hoffman, Infectious disease expert at Sanford Health, reports that STDs are increasing and the Sioux Falls region now has cases of drug-resistant gonorrhea.

New statistics from South Dakota’s Health Department show a steady and in some cases dramatic rise in sexually transmitted diseases in recent years.
Cases of gonorrhea have more than doubled since 2009, to 847, while syphilis cases have gone from none in 2011 to 79 last year.
The increase in STDs in the last few years might be tied to social media and the Internet, which have made it easier for people to find anonymous, risky sex partners, Kightlinger said.
Did you catch that? Social media is not just an uncontrollable time vampire, it’s probably helping spread disease.
So now you can not only tell your kids that if they spend too much time on Facebook they’ll go blind, you can tell that if they spend too much time on Facebook they’ll, well, bad things will happen to their special ‘Happy Parts.”
