Additional Information

Since 1976, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church has hosted the St. Lucia Festival. All are welcome for this free and meaningful event that celebrates the best things of Christmas: community, light, family, children, and good food. We share an invitation to our community to consider making a St. Lucia performance part of your 2016 Christmas experience.

The story of Lucia, the symbol of light amid the darkness of winter in Sweden, has many different versions. It is not clear how the saint from Sicily became Sweden’s beacon of light, but legend says that Lucia brought food to people who were dying of hunger during a famine. Today, it is one of the high points of the Christmas season and candles are lit all over Sweden to bear light against the darkness.

This year's 41st Annual festival performances will be Thursday, December 8th at 7:00pm, Friday, December 9th at 7:00pm, and Saturday, December 10th at 10:00am. All freewill donations will be given to LSS’ Center for New Americans to assist refugee families with basic necessities for infant care.
