The National Sunflower Association says South Dakota is the top sunflower-producing state for the third straight year.

In fact, the Sunshine State (well, we used to be known as that until we changed it to the Rushmore State in '92...) produced 1.23 billion pounds in 2015!

That number would've been lower had we not grew and nurtured a sweet 4-footer on the south side of our house this summer. The pic above is not that flower. Even though I took a few photos of that magnificent beast, the above photo is not mine. It's just a stock photo - but mine looked just like it.

This summer, we might go for two.

By the way, North Dakota’s production increased 26 percent while record high yields were also achieved in Kansas and Nebraska.
