Your teen wants a job this summer. You are more than happy to get your teen out of the house and off the computer or their phone, for at least a couple of hours a day!

Studies have shown that summer jobs for teens have also been shown to create a positive bridge to future academic and employment achievements, as well as lower participation in drug and alcohol abuse and other criminal enterprises.

So they want to earn some extra cash and you want to support that effort. What now?

The answer can be found at the Siouxland Libraries, specifically the Prairie West Branch at 7630 West 26th Street. They are offering a three-part educational series which can help your teen get a job, or prepare them for the job they've already landed.

These sessions are for 15- to 19- year-olds and will be from 5:30 to 6:15 the first three Thursdays of April (2017).

  1. April 6th's topic: Job search - Where to look, what to expect
  2. April 13th: Job applications - How to format resumes and cover letters
  3. April 20th: Interviews - What to expect

They will also be offering two sessions of mock interviews on Monday, April 24, 2017. Pre-registration is required. Call 978-6899 to register, or 367-8700 for more information on the program. You can also check out siouxlandlib.org.

Hireteen.com/South Dakota can be a starting place for Sioux Falls teens looking for job hunt ideas, teen job fairs, and other tools useful for finding summer and part-time employment.
