North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz could be a top five pick in this years NFL draft. Many analysts rated him as the top quarterback prospect, including Mel Kiper Jr.

As it sits right now, Wentz is projected by some to be the number two pick by the Cleveland Browns. With the issues and probable departure of Jonny Manziel this would make sense.

However, California quarterback Jared Goff is also in the running for best quarterback in this years draft. If the Browns decide to go with Goff over Wentz then the next option is the Dallas Cowboys with the fourth pick.

The Cowboys still have many needs on defense and it is uncertain what they will do with their pick. There is an important need to find someone to replace Tony Romo for the future but using a number four pick is risky.

I've talked with Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and she believes that there is a 50-50 chance that Dallas will take Wentz if he's available at four. It all depends on whether Dallas can find a pass-rusher before the draft and or resign corners Brandon Carr and Marcus Claiborne.

Wentz started the last two years at quarterback for NDSU but missed time this year with a broken wrist. In two seasons, Wentz threw for 4,762 yards and 42 touchdowns with 14 interceptions. He also rushed for 13 touchdowns during his career at NDSU.
