A former Police officer in the South Dakota towns in Corsica and Centerville has been found guilty on rape charges and is facing sentencing according to the Lincoln County States Attorney.

Tuesday afternoon a Lincoln County Jury returned a guilty verdict for First Degree Rape against Marty Banghart.  He was found not guilty on accompanying charges.  First Degree Rape is a Class C Felony punishable by up to life in prison.  There is a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in the State Penitentiary because Banghart’s victim was under the age of 13 at the time of the offense.

A sentencing date has not been scheduled.
