Either this is a cruel prank or it's the best news ever! An article recently published in VinePair suggests that drinking wine before bed might just help you lose weight.

Researchers at Harvard University recently followed 20,000 women over a 13-year time frame and found that women that drank about two glasses of wine before bed reduced their risk of obesity. And if it was red wine, actually burned fat.

Women that took part in the study said that the wine helped curb the need for something sweet (and full of calories,) right before turning in for the night.

Researchers are quick to point out that the trick is to REPLACE your before bed snacks with a glass (or two) of wine, and not to ADD wine to your snacking habit. Wine usually has fewer calories and less fat then sweets and other unhealthy snacks. For example, a glass of red wine usually contains about 135 calories and 0 grams of fat; white wine about 120 calories with 0 grams of fat. A typical slice of cake might contain 235 calories and 10.5 grams of fat (if not more!) and 10-15 Cool Ranch Doritos will contain about 150 calories and 8 grams of fat.

Women in the study agree that after replacing a glass of wine in place of before-bed sweets, there were instances of weight loss and the urge for something sweet had simply disappeared.

Of course the key to making this switch is going to be MODERATION! Choosing a glass of wine over a piece of cake or bowl of ice cream might be okay for your diet, but a BOTTLE of wine instead of that cake or ice cream is not!
