Since today is Cyber Monday I thought it would be best that we issue a two-word warning for online shopping this year. Order early.

My wife ordered an item, which will remain a mystery a few weeks ago from Jacksonville, Florida. Now, if you dropped a letter in the mail from Jacksonville, you would think it might take a day or two to get to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A small package however proved to take a little longer. In fact, it had eight different stops before it finally made it here to Sioux Falls!

These tracking numbers can almost be kind of fun to watch. For instance, this package started in Jacksonville, Florida. From there it was whisked away to Forest Park, Georgia. Forest Park is a community of 18,000 just nine miles south of Atlanta. 337.8 miles for those of you keeping track at home.

From there, the package tracked up to Grove City, Ohio. Grove City is the hometown of Twenty One Pilots frontman Tyler Joeseph.  569.6 miles, in case the Rain Man in you was wondering.

After an overnight in Grove City, Ohio, the package was On The Road Again. This time to Aurora, Colorado. This leg of the journey was brutal. 1252.5 miles. It flew over Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, and Kansas before touching down in the Rocky Mountain High state! When it touched down a worker named Ralph sent it on to Henderson, Colorado. This leg was 24.7 miles. We are thinking that Ralph just tossed it into a mini-van to get it off his workload and took off for home on time that fateful night.

Our package rested comfortably that night before taking off for Lenexa, Kansas. 599.2 miles was the number on the odometer this time. This is where the story takes an ironic twist. Lenexa is the birthplace of Garmin. You know, the company is known for helping you get there faster, without taking the long way to get there! After an overnight, Jane was confused and inadvertently set the package to Olathe, Kansas. This trip was a short 8.3 miles. But in heavy traffic, it must have taken 15 or 20 minutes to get there. For another overnight stay!

After an overnight in Olathe, the package was loaded up and shipped out. This time to Osseo, Minnesota. Whoops, this little detour added another 472.9 miles. We'll be cruising at 34,000 feet, so put your feet up and relax for a while. According to Wikipedia,

It is said that "Osseo" is derived from the Ojibwe name waaseyaa meaning "there is light",

Again, Osseo, 'there is light' took on a bit of flavor. You see, there was 'light at the end of the tunnel for this package and the trip it was making! 242.5 more miles and boom it showed up in Sioux Falls!

All totaled, this package traveled a total of 3,507.5 miles before finally making it to it's way to our doorstep in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

And that boys and girls, is why 'if you're ordering off the internet' for Christmas this year, you had better order early!
