With goods and services on the rise thanks to inflation, it's nice to cut costs where you can. One midwest college is cutting out a huge cost for more families--the cost of a college education.

According to KETV, the University of Nebraska is promising to give free college tuition to more of its students by expanding its Nebraska Promise program.

What is the Nebraska Promise program?

The Nebraska Promise website states that it launched in 2020 and "covers undergraduate tuition at the University of Nebraska's four campuses (UNK, UNL, UNMC and UNO) and its two-year technical college (NCTA)."

Who qualifies for the Nebraska Promise free tuition?

Tuition is covered for students who meet certain academic and family income qualifications. When the program launched it offered free tuition to students who had a family threshold income of $60,000 or less. Now to offer free college to more people, they've increased that threshold to $65,000 or less. Students must also be full-time and maintain a 2.5 GPA. Students who use this program are also "limited to 30 credit hours of tuition coverage per academic year." The new level will be in place for returning, transfer, and new undergraduate students entering the university in the fall of 2022.

So here's a recap of what you need to qualify for the free tuition:

  • Family income of $65,000 or less
  • Nebraska resident
  • Full-time undergraduate student
  • Maintain a 2.5 GPA (Must take 12 credit hours per semester)

It's that simple! The report states that more than 7,000 students at the state's campuses are utilizing the program. Does it sound like something you or someone in your family wants to be a part of?...It's FREE college! If so you can get more details about the application process and deadlines HERE.

This program was put in place so any Nebraskan that wants to get a college education can. It may be time to move to Nebraska.
