I've talked to quite a few farmers over the last few years. It must go with working on a popular radio station in a mostly rural area.

Yes, Kickin' Country covers Sioux Falls. Many people listen to Trav and Tammy in the Morning on the way to work. Or they listen to Jerry P while they get their work done. Since I grew up on a farm, and my brothers both farm, and many of my friends farm, I like talking about farming on the phone.

I like talking with people who know farming too. Like Brian or Darren Hefty of Hefty Seed. I'm sure they would have quite a few corn stories to tell. I'll have to have them stop in and chat some afternoon. We could talk about when to plant and when to wait.

Today Matt from Viborg called in. He was spreading s*&t out on the farm. I've been talking to Matt off and on for the past 15 plus years. We shifted from spreading s&$t to planting corn. Leave it to Matt to keep it colorful. He told me a quick story about when to plant corn and when to wait. He said,

My dad always told me his dad would say, when you can pull your pants down and actually sit on the bare ground THEN you can talk about planting corn. Until then, wait.

Matt went on to say that today's farmers are covering more ground. They have to chase the calender and get the corn in. They're under more pressure because of rain days and down time usually pop up and more acres means more days in the field. I know many of the bigger farmers have been out planting and maybe you know someone who is too!

So, what about you?  What about your farm. Are you planting already? Or going to wait till you can sit a while!
