This is the weekend Hollywood celebrates the best in movies from the past year.  Movie stars, along with various TV and music celebrities, will spend the better part of Sunday getting all dolled up in dresses that were often times designed specifically for them - and that one occasion (be seen in public wearing the same dress, NEVER).

Then comes time to 'walk the red carpet' where fans and critics alike will let the celebs know how much they love them and like what they're wearing, and whether or not they think they have a better than average chance of going home with an Oscar.

Maybe it's my age, but I have a really hard time respecting 'The Academy.'  The only movie that's been nominated this year that I've actually seen is American Sniper - one of the biggest money makers of the year.  Yet, Clint Eastwood isn't even nominated for the Best Director award - REALLY!

That's why I'm convinced The Academy Awards are nothing more than a chance for the rich and famous to get all dressed up once a year in their Sunday best just to make sure the general public doesn't forget about them.  It's nothing more than a way for them to stroke their egos.  It's like Hollywood is high school and The Academy Awards is their prom.

If Hollywood and movie critics really cared about the ticket buying public, they'd focus more on the movies people pay to see, rather than the artsy-fartsy films that always get nominated.

If we're gonna be forced to sit through this dribble, just once I'd like to see someone get up on stage and have the courage to thank the two most important people in their lives - their agent who gets them the better parts, and the plastic surgeon who gives them the bigger parts.

And while I'm at it, I think the best acting awards should actually go to those losers who have to sit there in the audience and try to look happy!  That I'd watch!
