Midwest’s Best Beer Scenes and Why Sioux Falls Should Be On It
Sioux Falls cannot compete with Minneapolis and Chicago for population and number of breweries, but we should be included on the top spots for beer scenes in the Midwest.
USA Today sent traveling beer experts on a trip through the country (sweet gig if you can get it) to rate the best beer scenes in the country. No, Sioux Falls did not make the top 20 - but I'll give you a few reasons why it should: I'll call this my draft fantasy lineup:
Monks House of Ale Repute
Located on E. 8th St. in Sioux Falls, Monk's House of Ale Repute boasts nearly 40 tap lines, over 100 bottles and cans, a fine assortment of wines. The food is nothing short of award-winning and is still one of our go-to places for a cold one.
One of Sioux Falls' premier breweries - and still a great experience. Generous portions of food and a nice selection of brews. Granite City Food & Brewery’s signature brews, which are made on-site, are also available in Growlers. Seasonal brews are featured throughout the year. My first beer there was the 'Ringneck Red'.
Fernson Brewing Co.
Fernson has a nice following in Sioux Falls. It's available in several places including the Premier Center. If you'd like to walk around with a HUGE mug and listen to great music under the stars, check out FersonFest.
Hydra Beer Company
Located on S. Shirley Ave., Hydra Beer Company is the ultimate combination of premium craft beers and modern culture, pushing the limit in both brewing and image.
Remedy Brewing Company
According to their Facebook page update, Remedy Brewing has been hard at work in their 8th & RR space and we can't wait to share their brews with us. Look for a summer of 2017 opening! Welcome to the beer scene, guys!
WoodGrain Brewing Co. is a brewery specializing in quality craft-made beers served in a warm, inviting, and comfortable tap house location on S. Phillips Ave. Their beers feature local ingredients whenever possible, including locally sourced hops and barley and unique strains of yeast. One of my favorites!
Located next to Scheel's on 41st. St., Taphouse 41 specializes in amazing burgers, specialty tap beers, and unique, 40 to 50 eclectic bourbons. And, handmade specialty bourbon cocktails sure to please!
Though they are known for seating 47 or so people at a time - it's worth the wait. The burgers get rave reviews and often places near the top in the 'Best Burgers of Sioux Falls' polls. And you'll stay for the beers! The pic is my fantasy lineup!
The Barrell House
One of Sioux Falls newest bar scenes, the Barrell House is quickly becoming a favorite place to hang with friends. Located on East 54th St., they proudly pour over 40 different tap beers, over 70 bourbons and whiskeys. (I'm told I must try the Neapolitan style pizzas)
