The ‘Dry January Challenge’ In South Dakota
A growing trend of the last few years called the Dry January Challenge has people limiting their alcohol intake.
According to KSFY, the idea is from the United Kingdom. Dry January started after people noticed they partied a little too hard during the holidays and they wanted to take a break from alcohol.
Some people are going longer than a month.
The Carpenter Bar in downtown Sioux Falls serves a variety of non-alcoholic beverages.
"We have people that come in and order NA cocktails and we make a variety of different versions. We use shrubs and different syrups," Bartender, Kelly Sullivan said.
The Dry January challenge has gone worldwide and there are people use the month to reach some other goals. Some say it brings you better overall health.
KSFY reports that Carla White from the Sioux Falls area says she's aiming for a year without drinking.
“Quitting alcohol all together seemed impossible but "taking a break", THAT I could do,” White said.
If nothing else, the Dry January challenge is a way to save money and some people have used it to give up drinking altogether.
