Paralympian Oscar Pistorius was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of murder after the fatal shooting of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkemp.

According to Reuters, Pistorius was taking in for questioning by police in Pretoria about the incident. He is expected to appear in court later today.

Police said Pistorius would appear in court later on Thursday on the charge of murder and that there had "previously been incidents at the home of Mr. Oscar Pistorius."

He is an international figure in the sports world and was a focal figure at the London Olympics last summer.

Pistorius, 26, who was born without a fibula in both legs, was the first double amputee to run in the Olympics. Nicknamed the "Blade Runner," he was able to compete by wearing carbon fiber prosthetic blades.

He was also named one of the "sexiest men alive" by People Magazine.
