Kane Brown Honors Military Families in Emotional ‘Homesick’ Video
The lyrics of Kane Brown's new single "Homesick" share how he feels being apart from fiancee Katelyn Jae while on the road. But the official video for the song gives it a whole new meaning.
Brown had the chance to perform for the California National Guard, and turned the video into a tribute to the selfless men and women who serve. A compilation of clips of soldiers returning home to surprise loved ones makes for a tear-jerking interpretation of the song that has Brown singing about the person he misses back home.
Those who serve overseas know this feeling well, as scenes of fathers, mothers and siblings in uniform surprising their loved ones back home tell the story of the song. A soldier moving his son to tears when he surprises him in school; a basketball player emotionally embracing his brother on the court during a game; a mother tearfully greeting her young daughter at the airport; and a soldier crying as he greets his wife and baby are just a few of the moments that are bound to make you weep.
Country music harbors a longtime connection to veterans, and the same can be said for Brown. His grandfather fought in the Army—and Brown himself almost joined, telling Taste of Country in a 2016 cover story that he would have, if not for his disqualifying tattoos.
Brown co-wrote "Homesick" with Matt McGinn, Taylor Phillips and Brock Berryhill. It's featured on his upcoming sophomore album Experiment, set for release on Nov. 9. He co-wrote all 12 tracks and says the project is "all over the place," staying true to its title.
“There are songs that are big in terms of production, and then there are traditional country songs on there so we can show we can still do that and bring those back," he describes to Taste of Country.
Brown will continue to be "Homesick" as he ventures out on Chris Young's 2018 Losing Sleep World Tour through December.
