Kacey Musgraves Captures the Magic of Love in Sparkling ‘Butterflies’ Video
Kacey Musgraves wasn't kidding when she said her new album was largely inspired by her relationship with her husband, Ruston Kelly. Previously best-known for a dryly cynical take on love, Musgraves is all-in for romance on her new song, "Butterflies," and the video she's just released take it one step further.
Musgraves shot the "Butterflies" video in Mexico City under the direction of Courtney Phillips, who also directed her video for "Space Cowboy.' The clip employs a variety of mood lighting to portray Musgraves' lyric, going from darker to lighter as Musgraves goes from being alone to being with the one she loves and using floating, glittery lights as the singer builds into the chorus:
"Now you're lifting me up, instead of holding me down / Stealing my heart instead of stealing my crown / Untangled all the strings 'round my wings that were tied / I didn't know him and I didn't know me / Cloud nine was always out of reach / Now I remember what it feels like to fly / You give me butterflies," she sings.
"Butterflies" appears on Musgraves most recent studio album, Golden Hour, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Country Album chart. She is set to perform on Saturday Night Live on May 12, and she will hit the road with former One Direction singer Harry Styles on his Live on Tour roadshow beginning in June. She will also headline her own Oh, What a World Tour beginning in October in Amsterdam. That tour will visit England, Scotland and Ireland before wrapping in November.
