P!NK Coming to Sioux Falls for Denny Sanford Premier Center Anniversary Concert
When the Denny Sanford Premier Center looked at celebrating their 10th anniversary later this year with a big concert, they knew they needed to find a major artist to take the stage in Sioux Falls that night.
They ended up landing one of the top touring acts in music today.
Grammy-winning P!NK is coming to Sioux Falls, Monday, October 21.
P!NK was born Alecia Beth Moore on September 8, 1979 in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.
From the ages of 4-12 she was a competitive gymnast.
Her first band, Middleground, disbanded upon losing a Battle of the Bands competition.
At 14, she became a member of the all-female group Basic Instinct, before they broke up without releasing any material.
At 15, P!NK formed the Choice which later released one album. After the group disbanded, she signed a solo contract with LaFace Records. Her first solo single, 'There You Go', was released in February 2000 and became her first top-ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Later that year, she was named Female New Artist of the Year at the Billboard Music Awards.
She has since gone on to release nine studio albums, most recently 2023's Trustfall, which topped the charts in eight countries.
Over the years, three of her albums, Funhouse (2008), The Truth About Love (2012), Beautiful Trauma (2017) all reached number-one on the U.S. album chart.
A pair of her solo singles, 'So What' (2008), 'Raise Your Glass' (2010) have topped the pop charts in America. P!NK has also been a part of two other #1 songs, 'Lady Marmalade' (2001) with Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim and Mýa, and 'Just Give Me a Reason (2013) with Nate Ruess.
She three Grammys to her credit, winning in the 2004 Best Female Rock Vocal Performance category for 'Feel Good Time', and a pair of Best Pop Collaboration awards, in 2002 for 'Lady Marmalade' and in 2011 award for 'Imagine' (with Herbie Hancock, India.Arie, Seal, Konono Nº1, Jeff Beck, and Oumou Sangaré).
P!NK has sold 135 million records worldwide.
The building may be celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2024, but the idea for a new events center in Sioux Falls goes back 25 years.
It was first discussed in 1999 but didn't go to a public vote until November of 2011, when it was approved by 58 percent of the ballots cast (23,284 - 16,807).
Construction on the 12,000-seat building began August 30, 2012. The project was finished September 19, 2014. The first concert at the facility was held five days later (9/24/14) with Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and Starship taking the stage. Tickets for the show were just five dollars.
Major artists from just about every musical genre have played 'The Denny' since, including other Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Paul McCartney, Foo Fighters, Journey, Chicago, Def Leppard, The Doobie Brothers, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, Kiss, Metallica, Dolly Parton, Bob Seger, Paul Simon, and Rod Stewart.
The Country Music Hall of Fame has been well-represented over the years by the aforementioned Dolly Parton, as well as Garth Brooks, Reba McIntire, George Strait, and Wynonna Judd.
