Okay, so the bitterly cold weather we're having right now probably isn't a big selling point for winter living in South Dakota. But if you're the kind of person who can take it in stride or make the best of it, winter is a great time to live in South Dakota.

No Bugs

Just say no to biting flies, mosquitos, creepy grasshoppers, and stinging hornets. Nope, those guys won't bother you during a South Dakota winter!

There is just something truly soul-satisfying about a big bowl of hot soup in the wintertime. Whether you make it from scratch or just pour it out of a can and warm it on the stove, the effect is just the same.

In fact, science has proved that your mom was right - a hot bowl or cup of chicken soup can help you feel better when you have a nasty cold. Soup weather in South Dakota is a win-win.

I am very aware that a lot of people would look at that picture and wish for the kind of weather that begs for yard work. But I am not one of them. I know the exchange is shoveling and snow-blowing, but that's part of the winter in South Dakota deal.

If your favorite thing about winter is cozying up indoors and hanging out, you have chosen well in South Dakota. This is the perfect time to watch those movies you've been meaning to see or binge on that series from one of your streaming services that everyone's been talking about.

I have a nephew who loves both of these sports so I decided to add them separately. He lives in Nebraska now so luckily he's had plenty of winter weather there too.

Baking

Again, this is one of those activities that not only warms hearts but bellies too. There is just something about punching down raising bread dough that is not only fun, but can be a stress reliever too. And freshly baked cookies - is there anything better?

Hot Chocolate

Whether you're just coming in from cold outdoor activities or just have a craving for this chocolaty elixir while watching a movie. Hot chocolate is definitely a reason to love winter!
