I remember hearing the voice of my oldest son on the phone last summer. 'Hi Dad, it's Jake, hey I'm gonna be a Dad.  I can tell you where I was standing and what I was doing. It's a pretty big call to take.  I told him, congratulations!  Things are about to get real!

I might have used a different word than 'things' but you get the gist.

It really is quite a journey we're all on. I remember growing up in Kennebec, South Dakota. Then moving away, and having a family with my wife of now 30 plus years. This first grandchild has kind of added a new and different buzz. It's good!

This was kind of a neat experience. Jake and Rilie decided to not find out if it was a boy or girl. I was sure it was a boy and I was sure wrong. Harper Alice came into the world weighing 8.1 lbs, and 21 inches long!

I stopped up to Avera Hospital today to see her for the first time. I have to tell you though, 'hearing her' was just as cool as seeing and holding her for the first time.

Jake, Rilie and Harper Alice are doing great. She's beautiful, she smells great and hearing her cry just a little bit was unbelievable too. It's a beautiful thing to happen, on a beautiful February day.

I asked their  permission to write up a quick story and to use a few pictures that I took with the Samsung Galaxay S5 that I use courtesy of Sprint. What an amazing tool to take perfect pictures. Bet you'll be seeing more of those soon!
