A crash on Friday April 15, 2016 at 8:30 PM seven miles west of Sioux Falls has resulted in the death of 39 year old Lee Waltner of Coon Rapids, MN, and three being treated for serious but not life threatening injuries.

The crash shut down Highway 42 near Wall Lake for several hours as both Avera and Sanford helicopters arrived and other emergency crews used the jaws of life to rescue the injured.

Waltner was driving west bound on highway 42 near mile marker 354 in the correct lane in his 1998 Honda Civic with his 8 and 9 year old daughters as passengers.  18 year old Jeffrey Kaubisch of Sioux Falls was driving a 1997 Honda Accord traveling eastbound, crossed the center line and collided with the Civic.  Kaubisch sustained serious, non life threatening injuries.

At least two of the occupants were wearing seat belts.
