Big Rain Make Cups Overflow on RibFest Weekend

Funny how almost four inches of rain over two days can change the complexion of the landscape.

All that rain did not dampen the RibFest mood this past weekend with throngs of food and music lovers braving the conditions.   The Sioux Falls Canaries were not so enthused as one game was lost to the rain.  The local racing scene was also hampered by the weekend deluge.

A record 2.47 of rain fell Sunday in Sioux Falls.  There were even funnel clouds spotted over the city on Sunday, too.  Saturday’s total rainfall was officially .89 at the National Weather Service office which was .08 short of a record for May 31.

The largest evidence of abundant precipitation can be found in flower beds, vegetable gardens and sloughs.  Watch the plants take off this week as you go through your daily routine.

Side-by-side evidence of the influence of the weekend showers shows up in the wetlands east of Results Radio.  After the big rain, two ducks enjoy the lake levels just fine.
