This will be the second year my daughter and I will be attending the Poetry Slam in downtown Sioux Falls celebrating Poetry month.

If you've never been to a poetry reading or poetry slam I would highly recommend the experience.

At a poetry slam like this one you can hear people from all walks of life, with all sorts of perspectives and they can range in age from middle school to old school sharing a very personal side of themselves.

At an open mic poetry slam you never know what to expect from person to person, and that's one of the things I love about them the most.

April is national Poetry month and Siouxland Libraries are putting together a series of poetry events to celebrate.

According to the Siouxland Libraries facebook page here are a few events you can enjoy for poetry month:

Poetry Reading with Dr. Kevin Cole is Thursday, April 6th. Dr. Kevin Cole will read from his new book, "Late Summer Plums." If you are a writer and would like some insight into the writing process Dr. Cole will also share a glimpse inside his creative process.

3rd Annual Poetry Slam Friday April 7th. This poetry slam will take place at Coffea Roasterie from 6:30 PM- 8:30 PM

Dakota Women Poets Event is Thursday, April 20th from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM at the Downtown Library (200 N. Dakota Ave.) Come listen to a poetry reading by the Dakota Women Poets and join in on the Q & A afterward.
