With Halloween fast approaching, it's time to dust off all of those scary movies, pop up some popcorn, and head to the couch for a non-stop binge session of your favorite fright flicks.

But when it comes to the biggest horror movie villains of all-time which is South Dakota's favorite?

The website FrontierBundles.com picked a dozen of the most popular villains from scary movies released before 2000 and then cross-checked data from Google Trends to see who’s on top in each state.

In the Mount Rushmore State, it's none other than the guy you never want to see outside your shower - Norman Bates - played by Anthony Perkins in Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 classic Psycho.

Rhode Island joined South Dakota as the only two states showing a preference for the caretaker from the Bates Motel.

In fact, Stephen King's characters dominated the competition with a total of 20 states. The creepy clown Pennywise from It took eight states, and the title character from Carrie was the most searched in two.

Chucky from the Child’s Play and the monster from Frankenstein were named as the favorite in six states each.
