Anyone who's been to the doctor's office in the last year and a half has seen exactly how busy medical people have been.

If you or a loved one has needed basic medical care or had a medical crisis recently you know that finding good health care at a reasonable price can be difficult. It takes research, and advocating for yourself, or having someone who will do it for you.

Wallet Hub's latest study on the state of our nation's healthcare compared all 50 states in three basic categories; A) Cost, B) Accessibility, and C) Outcomes.

Of course, these three categories were comprised of a number of sections containing data like; the cost of insurance premiums, the number of hospital beds, physicians and dentists per capita, as well as birth, death, heart disease, and infant mortality rates- -and more.

The stunning cost that the average American spends on personal health care per year according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is - - $11,000!

Overall South Dakota was the 10th best state for health care, ranking high in the cost and access to healthcare categories.

Our neighbors to the north and southeast placed higher- -Minnesota placing 3rd, and Iowa at number 8. North Dakota and Nebraska came in 17th and 27th respectively.

The states which consistently rank high year after year are determined to have the best rates of longevity and quality of life. The U.S. overall falls behind other wealthy countries in those two areas but has improved in the number of citizens receiving healthcare, and costs have dipped slightly. Slightly.
