Most of the 4th quarter has been a wash for high school seniors. Not just here in South Dakota but around the nation and many countries around the world. This is quite a class. Most were born 2001 the year of the terror attacks on the United States and now find themselves closing out their high school days with 'different' high school graduation celebrations.

Due to social distancing, West Central seniors will celebrate their graduation in the parking lot of the school in Hartford, South Dakota. Parents will spread out in the massive parking lot of the school. That parking lot isn't big enough to accommodate well-wishers so they are planning a celebration parade after the parking lot ceremony.

We talked with high school algebra teacher Janel Merkwan and she told us;

Unless they get rained out, the Graduation will take place in the High School parking lot with the Parade around the neighborhoods of both Hartford and Humbolt. We know we can't get everybody in, so we're going to bring the graduates to them!

NOTE: Graduation had been scheduled for Saturday, but due to rain in the forecast has since been moved to Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM.

At Kickin' 100.5 we have put together a 'soundtrack' for that parade celebration. The soundtrack includes music (not all country!) interspersed with faculty, local businesses, and many of the graduates of the Trojan class of 2020!  Listen for our special graduation parade soundtrack, Sunday. We'll wait for the clue from Mrs. Merkwan and start it again at 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM.
