Thanksgiving is about a lot of things, but at its heart, it's about family. Sometimes though people's lives prevent them from gathering with their loved ones.

The business of protecting the United States doesn't take a Thanksgiving break, so those soldiers, sailors, Marines, and airmen are among those that have to sacrifice being home for the holidays.

Thankfully we live in a time of easily shared video. Here are a few members of the military who have roots in Minnesota with some holiday greetings:

Private 1st Class Jonathan Wiedell from Emily, Minnesota.

Wiedell is a marksmanship instructor/competitive shooter with the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit Action Shooting Team, sends his Thanksgiving message from Fort Benning in Georgia.

Air Force Basic Trainee Taylor Rux from Minneapolis St. Paul, Minnesota.

Rux wishes family and friends a Happy Thanksgiving. Rux is currently in Air Force Basic Military Training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas.

Air Force Basic Trainee Philip Bitange from Apple Valley, Minnesota.
