I met Zombie Queen, Propane, and Carrie from the Sioux Falls Roller Dollz this week.

I had the usual questions I'm sure these women hear all the time like what is the most painful part of roller derby.

I was also curious about the moves, strategies, and reason behind Carrie being just Carrie.

Not that there is anything wrong with the name Carrie but most derby rollers have some personality driven nickname.

I learned roller derby nicknames are earned you have to work your way through the hours of sometimes painful practice, and training to receive a cool nickname like Zombie Queen or Propane.

I also found out I could get a cool nickname, and not be a roller derby doll, the refs also get creative nicknames.

The Roller Dollz have the toughness it takes for this kind of sport, and I also learned they use their platform to showcase their big hearts.

Their upcoming bout on Saturday, March 24th, they will be collecting items for The Compass Center in Sioux Falls.

Saturday, March 24th at the Special Olympics Unify Center the Roller Dollz are taking on Fargo Moorehead Derby Girls at 7:00 pm.

The Dollz have their sites set on other opportunities for helping people out including a summer Habitat For Humanity project planned.
