Tornado Season Coming Soon to South Dakota
If you've been following weather related news, you are already aware that Tornado Season is underway in parts of the United States. It's not a bad time to do a little homework. Little things like where to go in the house, having batteries for your radio and flashlight in those spots are just a few things to remember.
I saw a tweet from The national Weather Service today that caught my eye, it said;
Get in...get down...cover up! If you have a helmet, throw that on as well when you find yourself under a tornado warning. they also add, My safe place from tornadoes, high winds, thunderstorms... basement bathroom! Lowest level, interior room, no windows!
I had never thought of the bike helmet, but guess it makes sense.
Red Cross.org has a tip that is standard wherever you live;
In a mobile home, choose a safe place in a nearby sturdy building. If your mobile home park has a designated shelter, make it your safe place. No mobile home, however it is configured, is safe in a tornado.
A radio is a great idea. You hear a LOT of talk about needing a weather radio, but most commercial radio stations are already hooked up with the Emergency Alert System and will most likely fire an alert for your area. Oh yeah, don't forget the batteries for that radio. Make sure they're fresh.
