Tobacco, Vaping Products Buying Age Raised to 21

The minimum age to buy tobacco products will be raised to 21.

KSFY reports that the measure signed into law by President Donald Trump on Friday (Dec 20) is part of the $1.4 trillion spending agreement to fund the federal government.

A bipartisan group of senators had been working the measure for a while. They finally pushed it through by attaching it to spending bills that had to pass to avoid a government shutdown.

According to KSFY, the measure prohibits the sale of vaping products and traditional tobacco products like cigarettes to anyone under the age of 21.

Many states have already raised their legal ages for purchasing tobacco, but the new federal measure mandates the minimum age of 21 nationwide.

The law will take effect in the summer of 2020.
