The answer to hunger and homelessness in the country and our city has yet to be found. It is a complex issue, with a lot of moving parts. Many of the "food insecure" people in our area are what is referred to as "working poor". They are employed but make less than it takes to pay rent, clothe children, heat a home, buy gas for a vehicle, and many of the other daily living expenses

The good news is that organizations like The Banquet in Sioux Falls work diligently to provide for the less fortunate. Every year their Christmas Project is "Shower Our Guests with Care". But they only accomplish this with help from the community.

Most of us take for granted having items like toothpaste, soap, shampoo, lotion, deodorant, and other personal hygiene products. For individuals and families served by The Banquet, these items can be difficult to come by.

Now through Monday, December 16, you are asked to stop into any of the Lewis Drug Stores in Sioux Falls, to purchase a "Shower Our Guests with Care" pre-filled package for $9.99 at the registers. You can then leave your gift in the collection boxes at Lewis. 1500 packets are the goal to fulfill the needs of Banquet guests this Christmas.

In addition, The Banquet is collecting family-sized laundry detergent, fabric softener, dishwashing liquid, and toilet paper, which can be left in the Lewis Drug collection boxes or may be brought directly to The Banquet at 900 E. 8th Street in Sioux Falls.

For more information, see The Banquet online, on Facebook, or call Andrew Hewitt at 605-335-7066.
