This Day in History: It was a dark day June 9, 1972 for South Dakota as heavy rains pelted the Black Hills. Before the clouds lifted on June 11, 238 perished.
A few days ago, a coworker asked, "Why are they called the Black Hills?" and it made me realize I didn't know the answer either. So, I set out to find out.
