As part of South Dakota's severe weather awareness week, there will be a statewide tornado drill on Wednesday, April 26 beginning at 10:00 AM.

People can expect to hear the first tornado siren test of the year around 10:15 AM Wednesday morning.

The National Weather Service Office in Sioux Falls says that this is a good time to think about what you and your family will do in an emergency.

  • Do you have a shelter nearby?
  • Do you have a way to communicate with your family in an emergency?
  • Do you have a way to receive a severe weather warning?
  • How will you stay aware of the weather forecast if severe weather threatens?
  • Does your school, employer, or community have a severe weather plan?
