The South Dakota Senate passed a bill 24-9 which would make texting while driving illegal.  The bill is now heading to the House for debate.

September 28, 2012 Sioux Falls' texting ban went into effect.  The city ordinance prohibits 'texting, emailing, instant messaging, and surfing the Internet while their vehicle is a part of traffic within the city limits of Sioux Falls.'

We'll see if the bill in the House passes and becomes law upon the Governor's signature.  Will the provisions be similar to Sioux Falls?  Will Sioux Falls' city ordinance be moot with the passage of the state law?

Do you think it's time for a state law banning texting?  Comment and let us know.
